Feast of St. Vergil of Salzburg, Irish churchman, Benedictine bishop and astronomer, abbot of Aghaboe, bishop of Ossory and abbot of St. Peter at Salzburg and bishop of Salzburg about 765.  He was called “the Apostle to the Slovenes” and “the geometer”. Canonized in 1233.

Feast of St. John Berchmans, Belgian Jesuit. Wrote the devotion “The Little Rosary of the Immaculate Conception.” Patron of Altar Servers.

Feast of St. Catherine of Alexandria, Virgin and Martyr. Patron of archivists, educators, lawyers, librarians, maidens, mechanics, millers, nurses, potters, schoolchildren, secretaries, spinners, stenographers, students, tanners, theologians and unmarried girls.

Feast of St. Cianan (Kenan), Bishop of Duleek, Ireland. A hostage given to King Leogair, studied at the monastery of St. Martin in Tours. He converted great numbers to Christianity in Connaught and Leinster and built the first stone cathedral at Danberg, (Duleek), Meath, Ireland.

Feast of St. Columbanus of Bobbio, Irish missionary, founder of many monasteries, including Luxeuil Abbey, Burgundy, France & Bobbio Abbey Piacenza, Italy, taught Celtic monastic rule. Patron of motorcyclists.

Feast of St. Maurus, Benedictine Founder.  Roman Noble, first disciple of St. Benedict of Nursia.  Founder Glanfeuil Abbey. Patron of cripples, charcoal burners, cobblers, coppersmiths, shoemakers & the Azores.  Invoked against fever rheumatism, epilepsy, gout, hoarseness & cold.

Feast of St. Amelberga of Susteren, Benedictine nun and abbess of Susteren Abbey, Netherlands.  Died in 900.

Feast of St. Edmund the Martyr, King of East Anglia.  His shrine became the English town of Bury St. Edmund’s. Patron saint of England, pandemics, torture victims, wolves, the Roman Catholic diocese of East Anglia, the English county of Suffolk and Douai Abbey,Toulouse, France.

Feast of St. Odo of Cluny, Benedictine Abbot, canon of the Church of St. Martin in Tours, studied philosophy under Remigius of Auxerre.  Second abbot of Cluny. He enacted various reforms in the Cluniac system of France and Italy. Patron for rain.

Feast of St. Gregory Thaumaturgus (Gregory the Miracle-Worker), bishop.  Patron of desperate causes, floods, impossible causes, lost causes and against earthquakes.
