Feast of St. Bernard of Montjoux, priest and founder of a canonry and hostel at the highest point of the pass named Great St. Bernard, 8,000 feet above sea level, in 1050. Patron of mountaineers, skiers, skateboarders and the Alps.  St. Bernard dog breed is named for him.

Feast of St. Melangell

Feast of St. Melangell, Welsh virgin and abbess. Daughter of an Irish king, she became a hermit at Powys in central Wales. The prince of Powys, Brochwel Ysgithrog, granted her land to found a community of women. She served as abbess for 37 years. Patron of hares.
