Feast of St. Hedwig (Jadwiga) of Poland, the first queen regnant of the Kingdom of Poland, ascended the throne at age thirteen. Married Jagiello of Lithuania. Patron of Queens and United Europe. Canonized by Pope John Paul II in 1997.

Feast of St. Reineldis, virgin daughter of Count Witger and St. Arnalberga, sister of St. Gudula. Martyred by the Huns. Patron of open wounds and against eye disease.

Feast of St. Swithun, Anglo-Saxon bishop of Winchester, chaplain to Egbert of the Saxons, tutor to Ethelwulf.  Patron of Winchester Cathedral and the weather.  Tradition: if it rains on St. Swithun’s bridge today, it will rain for forty days!

Feast of St. Kateri Tekakwitha, Mohawk Virgin, the first Native American to be declared a Saint. Patron of the environment and ecology.

Feast of St. Henry, Holy Roman Emperor, Oblate of Saint Benedict. Married to Cunigunde of Luxembourg (later canonized), patron saint of the childless, of Dukes, the handicapped and those rejected by Religious Orders.

Feast of St. John Gaulbert, Florentine noble,  Abbott and founder of the Vallumbrosan Order. Patron of forest workers, foresters, park rangers, parks, Badia di Passignano, the Vallumbrosan Order, Florence, Italian Forest Corps and Brazilian forests.

Feast of St. Benedict of Nursia, father of western monasticism, wrote The Rule of Saint Benedict for monks. Patron of agricultural workers, speleologists, civil engineers, dying people, erysipelas, Europe, farmers, fever, gall stones, inflammatory disease, kidney disease & monks.

Feast of St. Amalberga of Maubeuge, Merovingian nun, relative of Blessed Pepin of Landen, married to Witgar and the mother of five saints – Emebert, Reineldis, Pharaildis, Ermelindis and Gudula. Amalberga joined the Benedictine monastery in Maubeuge, Hainaut, France.

Feast of St. Pantaenus the Philosopher, Greek theologian and missionary stoic philosopher, head of the  catechetical school in Alexandria, Egypt. St. Pantaenus influenced the development of Christian theology.
