Feast of St. Melania the Elder, Foundress, Desert Mother. Wealthy Roman married a Proconsul, influential in the Christian ascetic movement, spiritual mentor to Evagrius of Pontus.

Feast of St. Landulf of Yariglia, Benedictine Bishop of Asti, Italy. He studied at the Benedictine monastery of San Pietro in Ciel d’Oro in Pavia and joined Anselm IV, Archbishop of Milan, on the Crusade of 1101. Landulf was elected Bishop of Asti in 1105.

Feast of St. Marcellin Champagnat, French Priest and Founder, The Marist Brothers of the Schools (the Little Brothers of Mary).  Patron of Education and Teachers.  Died 1840. Canonized in 1999.

Feast of St. Walter, Benedictine hermit, abbot, founder and first abbot of the monastery of Serviliano, Ancona, Italy. Died 1250.

Feast of Juan Grande Román, Spanish Brother, Hospitallers of St. John of God. He founded a hospital and devoted it to the Blessed Virgin Mary, He died of the plague after tending those who suffered from it. Patron Diocese of Jerez de la Frontera.

Feast of St. Erasmus of Formia, (St. Elmo), martyr. One of the 14 Holy Helpers. Patron of sailors & abdominal pain. St. Elmo’s fire, a weather phenomenon where luminous plasma is created by a corona discharge in the atmosphere, is named after him. It is a good omen for sailors.

Feast of St. John Baptist Scalabrini, Bishop. Patron of Catholic Action, Migrants. Named the “Father of Migrants” by Pope John Paul II.
